This will likely be a lifelong project about my father's birthplace: Jenkinsville, South Carolina. For me, there's equal parts history and mystery. I've been trying to piece together my family history on that side off and on for a few years, and began digging deeper during a visit in 2015. The whole area seems frozen in the past--you could easily remove the modern cars from a scene and think you're looking at an image from the 1960s--and I find a lot of beauty in the untold (or forgotten) stories of places like that. Places where just driving through, you can feel there's much more beneath the surface. I've seen some of the slave records. My grandfather was murdered there. I'm just making an effort to sort it all out.
